Application for schengen visa

Please, in addition to the original documents bring one photocopy of all documents requested. The consulate will not provide copies, therefore ensure you have made them, before submitting the application.
The visa Department has fully authority to evaluate and request more documents than those submitted by the applicant. Submitting the below mentioned documents does not guarantee a visa will be granted.

1. Passport signed with two blank facing visa pages and residence permit for the UK, both valid for more than three months beyond the validity of the visa you are requesting. Your residence permit should be endorsed in your current valid passport. If it is endorsed in your old passport, please bring along to your appointment date this one as well.

Your passport must have been issued (not extended) within the last ten years. If it was issued longer than ten years ago, you must apply for a new one at your Embassy.

2. One duly completed application form. Please, state your daytime telephone number and full postal address .If the applicant is a minor (under 18) and travelling to Spain without parents a letter of approval by both parents or legal guardians with a copy of each parent’s / guardian’s passport. This letter should be duly authenticated by a solicitor or by the consulate of the applicant’s nationality.

3. One recent passport size colour photograph taken against a white background, printed on photographic paper, full face without sunglasses or head covering (unless for religious belief). If you also require a visa for any children included in your passport, please provide a photograph of each child travelling.

4. Proof of address in the UK. This should be your last utility bill, council tax bill or address in your bank statement.

5. Proof of sufficient funds to cover the cost of your intended your stay (i.e.: original recent bank statement / travellers cheques). Internet account statements, cash overdraft or credit card facilities are not accepted.

6. Proof of employment /studies. A recent original letter from your employer, stating the start date of your employment and your last payslip. If self-employed, a letter from your solicitor, accountant, Bank Manager or your local Chamber of Commerce.
If you are a student, please submit a recent and original letter from your school, college or University confirming your attendance and the duration of your course. If au-pair, nanny or domestic help: an up to date letter from your employer, his / her valid passport or certified copy, your contract of employment and last payslip.

7. Travel Health Insurance for the duration of the Visa, covering at least £ 20 000 and valid for all member states of Schengen. Evidence of medical insurance is now compulsory when travelling into any of the Schengen States. The insurance policy must cover medical expenses including emergency hospital treatment and repatriation. The policy must have been taken out with an insurance company in the UK.

8. Purpose of visit
Please note, confirmed return tickets to Spain or a fully paid booking by your travel agency will be requested by the visa officer only after the authorities approve your visa application (usually, two weeks after your scheduled appointment date).N.B. we strongly advise you not to make any irrevocable travel plans until the application for a visa has been approved.

• Private visit:
  Hotel booking reservation covering all your stay in Spain and other Schengen countries.
  If you are visiting family /friends: “Official letter of invitation” from host in Spain. This document must be obtained by the host at his local Police Station.
• Business trip: A formal invitation by fax from your business partner in Spain stating the kind of business, duration of the trip(s) and a confirmation of guarantee for the costs of the stay.
  A letter from your employer ,stating how long you have been employed with the company, the kind of business, duration of the trip(s) and a confirmation of guarantee for the costs of the stay.
• School trip: Letter from the school, accommodation, name of the group leader.
• Conference: Proof of registration with the organisers, dates and accommodation.
• Transit by car: original car documents and insurance.

SPOUSE OF AN EU CITIZEN

Documents listed in numbers 1- 4, plus:

- Original EU passport
- Original marriage certificate/ civil partnership. If not in Spanish or English, with official translation certified by the consulate of the country where your marriage was celebrated or by the legalisation bureau of the Foreign Office in England.
If your marriage certificate has been issued by a non EU country, it must be legalised according to the 1961 Hague Convention.
Proof of visit to Spain: confirmed return ticket to Spain or a fully paid booking by your travel agency. This will only be requested by the visa officer once the authorities approve your visa application. Usually, two weeks after your scheduled appointment.

DEPENDANT CHILD OF AN EU CITIZEN

Documents listed in number 1- 4 plus: 

• The parent’s original EU passport

• Original Birth certificate. If not in Spanish or English, with official translation certified by the consulate of the country where your marriage was celebrated or by the legalisation bureau of the Foreign Office in England.

If your birth certificate has been issued by a non EU country, it must be legalised according to the 1961 Hague Convention.
If the minor (under 18) is travelling to Spain without parents: a letter of approval by both parents or legal guardians, appointing the person who will be responsible for them, and a copy of each parent’s / guardian’s passport.
This letter should be duly authenticated by a solicitor or by the consulate of the applicant’s nationality.
Proof of visit to Spain: confirmed return ticket to Spain or a fully paid booking by your travel agency. This will only be requested by the visa officer once the authorities approve your visa application. Usually, two weeks after your scheduled appointment.

DDEPENDANT PARENT OF AN EU CITIZEN

Documents listed in number 1- 4 plus:

• The child ´s valid EU passport.

• Official proof of relationship. Original Birth certificate: If not in Spanish or English, with official translation certified by the consulate of the country where your marriage was celebrated or by the legalisation bureau of the Foreign Office in England.
  If the birth certificate was issued by a non EU country, it must be legalised according to the 1961 Hague Convention.

• Official letter from your child testifying that you are a dependant upon him/her.

• Proof of visit to Spain: confirmed return ticket to Spain or a fully paid booking by your travel agency. This will only be requested by the visa officer once the authorities approve your visa application. Usually, two weeks after your scheduled appointment.

DEPENDANTS OF A SPANISH NATIONAL

Documents listed in number 1- 4 plus:

• Original Spanish passport or DNI.

• Original LIBRO DE FAMILIA.
